Risk is Major Concern Among Companies Competing for 2009 European Supply Chain Excellence Awards

The global management consulting firm PRTM analyzed the entries of more than 100 companies competing for the2009 European Supply Chain Excellence Awards and uncovered some interesting trends in current supply chain strategy and execution.

For instance, 77% of participants said the two most important strategic supply chain issues are “customer demand collaboration” and “supply chain risk minimization.”

UK Businesses Want Less Risk, More Collaboration After Recession

A new paper from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) predicts a new era of business to emerge from the recession. Companies will have a more cautious approach, and are likely to operate in a more collaborative and flexible manner, the CBI says.

PwC Survey: One-third of Companies Fell Victim to Fraud in the Past Year

Senate Committee Approves New Food Safety Legislation

On Wednesday, a Senate committee unanimously approved a sweeping overhaul of the Food and Drug Administration’s food safety system.

The proposed legislation is similar to the measure passed by the House this summer, as it significantly increases the FDA’s regulatory powers and allows the agency to directly order a food recall, rather than merely requesting that a food manufacturer institute one. In addition, the Senate version of the bill includes whistle-blower protections, unspecified grants to states to improve food safety programs, and requirements for organic agricultural standards and other factors to be included in government food safety rules.
